I have been busy the last couple weeks updating my Web, Email, and DNS servers. I have 5 Dedicated servers, and 3 are configured to manage each individual Sever. Well, I have 2 for DNS servers. 2 for Email Servers, and then I have 1 that manages all current websites.
This is after a year for searching for the best route for hosting a website and email, server. All companies need a website, as well as, and email server. Needing these 2, also requires, they need a DNS server to manage traffic on their networks. As all network managers, and web developers are aware of. All 3 of these, along with some extra IP addresses, can be hosted on 1 Dedicated server.

All the major Website Hosting companies are aware of the fact that companies need website hosting, and email hosting. Most small companies and small business just know they need a website, and email for the business. They first start looking for a way to go about retaining these 2 key needed services. Some of the start-ups start with a Click & Build website. Like GoDaddy, Ionos, Hostgator, A2Hosting, and many others, offer for seemingly low prices. And, appear to make getting your Business or Product on a website and email provider. Which would allow you to save on getting a programmer to develop a website, and a network manager to maintain your IT department.
Or, you could do like I did, in 2002. We started our English Bulldog kennel on a free MSN sub domain website. This was in 1999. My Dad started that website. Then, Dad got in bad health, and I took of taking care of our Bulldogs, and handling the marketing. The Free website only allowed for 3 mb. Thats right, 3 m.b. I quickly realized I needed more server space, and we needed our own Domain Name. Of coarse I started out with Microsoft and 1 & 1 b-central. Apparently they where working together, and my Domain name cost $21.00 a year, and Hosting cost $480.00 a year. Which only gave me 5 email accounts and 450 mb server space for my website, and 1 database. With unlimited bandwidth.
Now, I have 6 Barebones Servers, running in 3 Data Centers. I provide Cloud, Web, Email, and DNS service's for a few small businesses, and for a better price, then the Large Hosting Companies. Those companies have to pay for advertisements, staff and office space. I cut all that out, and allow you to maintain all of your data, by maintaining your own Server Rack. Which is housed in a Large Data Center's, in 3 different locations. Spread out across the United States.
You will end-up spending more money with the large Hosting companies, in the long run. All have hidden charges and aggressive sales techniques. I have dealt with Go Daddy, Host Gator, IONOS, and Hostwinds. Now, as stated above, I have found a great Data Center, where I rent my Dedicated Servers (My hardware)
A good web developer always looks for Reseller Hosting. This give you control over your server, and allows them to add as many websites, and email accounts, as they wish. The problem is most of these are shared Hosting Plans, or VPS servers running on shared hosting platforms. And, you have limited emails, bandwidth, data base connections, email size, and file number size. Things you do not think about, until you need them. A good web developer will need more of all of those.
If you have gone down the rabbit hole of Web Hosting, then you know what I am talking about. If you are just starting your journey, then I wish you the best of luck. Remember, I told you that you need your own Bare Bones Dedicated Server, and some extra IP addresses. Doing this, you will save lot's of money, and you will have control of all of your data.
You will only end-up frustrated, and upset with one of the above mentioned companies, if you choose them for anything other then to register your Domain Name. Host Gator or Google are your best bets for that. They offer easy management of your Domain Name Servers. Believe me, I know first hand.
With your own Dedicated Server, you will need Plesk Obsidian or CPanel with W.H.M. Plesk is your best choice start out early. Also, Plesk is more cost effective. And easier to learn. I run everything from Containers now, and this makes for easier management, as well.
Over the past 2 weeks I shifted 3 websites which were Hosted on a VPS server with Ionos, to my newest Dedicated Server. Finally removing everything from IONOS. Who I was with for a year, until I realized how they continued to pull money from my account, and for things I never wanted. Twice, they pulled $152.00 and I never saw the second $152. returned. I have an account for each payment. I setup and escrow to manage the payments, and put enough in those accounts to ensure payment. And this will alert me if too much is removed. And, it was. More then twice, with IONOS.
Avoid using IONOS for Web Hosting. For that matter, I would be worried about all of them. GoDaddy offers the best solution for click and build websites. They also provide the payment portal, for your website. For a percentage of sales. Smart on their behalf.
When starting your journey creating websites, and maintaining one. You will choose one of those big Hosting Companies. Be very careful when you do. Have a goal to move away from them, as soon as possible. In the long run, you will save, and not end up frustrated.
I will have more updates about my Hosting and web design. I may even do some videos on it. I figure that there are already lot's of great videos out there about this topic, but I do have first hand experience with it. And I have been doing it since 2002. So, I have witnessed all the changes, and new techniques. I have to close up, so I can check my emails, and read over my server logs, just to make sure everything is running smooth.
